MAS QUE UNA BANDA -PANZER- UNA PASION POR EL ROCK
By the beginning I thought to write something about the rumour of an up coming new release from this chilenian classic heavy metal band. But only some facts about this legendary group from Santiago de Chile aren´t enough for me.So here is the whole story. Juan Alvarez G. one of the founders of the band starts his first hard rock band FEEDBACK somewhere at the end of the seventies. I am not sure about the full discography by this band but I think they released only a cassette LP and had one or two cuts on a hyperrare cassette compilation too. After that early experience the euro
pean flame of the heavy metal hysteria infects also in the beginning of the eighties south america. Fast conquer new heroes the metal hearts. Inside their neighbour country Argentina RIFF, MORDAZ and V8 aclaims the metal throne. In other latin american countries as Kolumbia similar rise a new metal scene with bands like KRAKEN. No doubt that Juan 
starts exact at this time also a another hopeful new band under the monkicker PANZER. From now on the musically direction is clear. The keyword is now classic heavy metal. A first selftitled tape album etablish the quintett fast and furious in the scene. But the really strike follows with the second release TIERRA DE METALES ... !!! From the start of the release date this was an all time classic latin heavy metal piece. One of the best releases across whole midle and south america during this area. Lot´s of attention and similar big success
helps them to become a topact in Chile. Also outside of their country offers their fame PANZER the contribution for an important compilation in 
Argentina. Together with all the other famous latin acts as ALAKRAN, ALVACAST, CHRONOS also PANZER put one of their best tracks from the tape LA JAULA on this famous vinyl sampler (LATINOS METALICOS was published on vinyl by HALLEY DISCOS). During this fantastic success CBS DISCOS Chile published too a tape sampler with our heroes. This rare compilation tape (INFIERNO ROCK) exist also too as much rarer promo vinyl edition which features from PANZER the track ALERTA ROJA. The other featured bands on this compilation was CHRONOS, DORSO and EPICENTRO. I think it was easy to publish TIERRA METALIS on vinyl but their company didn´t this. I really don´t know why they didn´t publish this brilliant classic metal piece on vinyl? It seems this will be a secret for all times. Hopefully could be there a rerelease in the future on CD ? Again in 1991 TIERRA DE METALES was rereleased with a different cover artwork, but still once more only as a cassette album. After a long to long absence of three years the metalists
returns in 1994 with the epic metal laden cassette ep TROL VIVO O MUERTO. Again the fanbase and the popularity rises more. But it took´s two more long years till finaly Warner Music Chile publish the next album EN EL NOMBRE DE ... ! With this CD release in the back the band played several big shows in and out their country. Meanwhile Juan´s son Khano joined as bassist the group. Fantastic metal diamonds like
the alltime classics as LINEA ARTIFICIAL or SOLEDAD MORTAL followed by the epic instrumental OJO DE ODIN, ANGEL AUDAZ an on and on classic banger or the little epos 1794 LA MISSION acting in the same high class as the well known latin metal acts like RATA BLANCA, TRITON, OBUS and their spanish name cousins PANZER...! Exspecially the fine guitar work of Juan and Felipe Lopez in contribution with the vocals of his brother Betho Lopez made this album again and again listenable. This classic release ends ends finally with the battle hymn PANZER AL ATAQUE! Once again two years later should come the biggest success for the band. PANZER played together with ANTHRAX and HELLOWEEN the famous MONSTERS OF ROCK festival in Santiago de Chile. In the same year 
the ROCK & ROLL ADDICTION (LIVE) titled disc comes into the shops. Still published on the mayor label Warner Music Chile (WEA) surprise this hard edged powerful and compromiseless produced album with a best of show with all the lost jewels from the past. Yet the opening smasher ALERTA ROJA (the original studio version was on the INFIERNO ROCK sampler) let´s feel us the great vibes of this gig. Followed by the classic metal tracks CABALLERO NEGRO and PEQUENO NINO both from the ´96 release EN EL NOMBRE... the first big highlight cames in form of the incredible SUENOS METALICOS from the TERRA DE METALES cassette-LP. Also the follow up the title cut ROCK & ROLL ADDICTION burns your soul with strong intensity ... !!! This five famous tracks were all recorded live during the support show for IRON MAIDEN in 1996 at the TEATRO MONUMENTAL in Santiago de Chile. Track number six another great metal tune FUERA DE CON TROL (SOMBRAS DE LA NOCHE) was planed for the next studio album for which we wait untill today. As bonus are included further REFLEXIONES, BUSCAME and DEJALO NACER three epic cuts from the TROL~VIVO O MUERTO cassette EP. La raza !!! But not enough!!! This cd contains also LA JAULA from the LATINOS METALICOS compilation as well another classic cut EL TEMOR (original published on the TIERRA DE METALES tape). Still I can not believe that there was after this genial release no follow up. Now we write 2008. Exact ten years later the band is still active and hungry to release their new album. So far eight tracks for the new GENERACION DEL ALKITHRAN titled album are finished and meanwhile it´s posible too to hear first sequences of the tracks on the actual website of the group www.panzerrockchile.cl/noticias.html . But don´t forget to tell em where you read first the whole story about PANZER. If you plan to visit Chile or especially Santiago de Chile and search for metal bands like PANZER, INQUISICION, DORSO, VASTATOR, STEELRAGE... try at first your luck in the city at the European shoping mall centre where you can find some little specialized metal shops. Another helpful location could be the FRANKLIN MARKET (a big fleamarket) where it´s posible to find old tapes, sometime reords and CD´s too. By the way the FRANKLIN MARKET is not far away from a subway train station. I think there exist also two TOXIC recordshops. They run also a recordcompany which released the CD´s by INNER SANCTUM, BLODEN WEDD and of course the rereleases of NECROSIS and MASSACRE... article by Gerald Mittinger
