LETTER 7 - SALT OF THE EARTH(LIFELINE AUDIO / CD´2007) UNITED STATES
So many great bands from the white metal scene are passed away. I missed the days when bands like BARREN CROSS, ETERNAL RYTE or even BRIDE published enthusiatic records. LETTER 7 is a band exact from this garde. When in the opening track the strong vocalartist Tom Collete praise and sings about the ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIER I feel absolute remembered on this famous christian acts I wrote before. The songs on this ten song tracker are on and on high class melodic metal. Behind the very good singer is standing the multitalent JD Evans. He has not only written all this great songs, he also played the lead and rhytmn guitar, the bass and als too the drums! The keyboards were done by his brother Daryl Evans. Unbelieveable ... !!! The spectrum of the album is wide arranged. Basically it´s constantly melodic metal. Sometimes I feel remember my heroes from BARREN CROSS like in the first two tracks. JUDGEMENT DAY is in comparsion a song somewhere between HOUSE OF LORDS and WHITESNAKE. Wow, the level by LETTER 7 is high, maybe to high. How will they top this in the next recording? Nearly at the end of the cd after so many good vibes the band celebrates celebrates with STAND ON THE ROCK another genius strike. Spontan I feel remembered on another christan metal legend named HOLY SOLDIER.So far, I often keep listen this masterpiece. Order the album under www.letter7rocks.com . LAST PROPHECY - DESTINATION UNKNOWN (PRIVATE RELEASE / MCD´2005) FRANCE
Nearly two years ago my friend mr. Tom Pantazidis told me that he saw this great band live in Belgium. In total histeria I told him that I owe in my collection the first self published album of this french band ...!!! This disc was publi shed under the title SHADOWS OF THE PAST back in 1995. Take only a look to the cover of this one and you know what kind of metal mania will awaits you. Musically this first cd was very close to IRON MAIDEN. No won der that the album contains also a cover of FEAR OF THE DARK.But without a doubt after all the years I still love this album still a lot.So it was no won
der that our heroes from LAST PROPHECY exist after this long time no more. But what are ten years when you believe in your dreams??? Perhaps this is also the reason for the working title DESTINATION UN KNOWN. The IRON MAIDEN influences are still present but no longer so strong. The opener DREAM WEAVER as well the fol lowing tracks EYE FOR AN EYE and the convincing SOLDIER OF FORTUNE are more than time less heavy metal. But it would be no fair to say that the material is infected only by MAIDEN. Okay only in the song THE MIRROR Luke Bernard sings like the brother of Bruce Dickinson. Ha, ha... but this sounds in my ears thousand times better as many of this unin spired acts today.Also the last two tracks MASK OF FEAR and REST IN PEACE are again good working classic Heavy Metal tunes. LEONARDO - STRAST I POZUDA(RTS/PGP / CD´2004) SERBIA
I searched a long time for this album without luck but finally I get this fine release. Yep, to answer your question in advance, it was it worth to search for this jewel. The Belgrade / Serbia based quartett around the guitar virtuose Ivan D. Milcic offers a fine brand of melodic metal. After
a typic guitar wizard introduction in the style of Yngwie starts the album with an earcandy. This well balanced melodic tune hits un der the title HITNO JE (VERY IMPOR TANT) really spectacular. Beside the strong guitar work impress me especially the eminent guest vocalist Vladimir Alf Jezdimirovic who celebrates this song in his native language in the style of a Jeff Scott Soto ...! The following title track (PASSION AND DESIRE) is a further melodic orientated timeless compo sition. I am sure if there exist an recording with english lyrics this album would be also a thema for record companies like LION MUSIC, MTM or FRONTIERS RECORDS too. At the other side maybe english lyrics would destroy the magic of this release. For example a melancholy song as LJUBAV PISC SIHOVC works at best in his native language. More speedy in combination with virtuose guitar playing is than DIVLJI VETROVI (WILD WEATHER) during the following GRANICA (FRONTIER) enters the terretory of DEEP PURPLE / WHITESNAKE laden style. Also SA TOBOM NI MOGA DALJIC (I CAN´T BE LONGER WITH YOU) is a track like a fusion between MALMSTEEN guitar handling and seventies retro DEEP PURPLE sound with the indeed of a hamond organ. Melodic but brilliant acts the A.O.R.ish tune KOGA SI LJUBILA (WHO DO YOU LOVED). Personal I agree more with this style. Take at face value to the perfect RAINBOW alike OSTANI NOC AS SA MNOM (STAY THIS NIGHT WITH ME). Another highlight is the eastern europe rock inspired SUDBINA (DESTINY) which let us dream away in the tradition of DIVILJE JAGODE or OSMI PUTNIK. If you think this track is the top of this compositions try out before the following SRCE OD KAM ENA (HEART OF STONE). Perhaps this track optimise the strongest elements of all the before named acts in one. A tick harder and faster runs KRIVJE ZA SVE (GUILTY FOR EVERY THING). Clear dominates also there the great MALMSTEEN / IMPELLITERI styled metal guitar before the album with an obligatory guitar outro (REQUIEM) ends. LEGACY - TRUST(ONE RECORDS 156 / CD´2008) SERBIA
This is so far the latest release of this serbian based record company. Untill now I never heard of this PIROT (a town near to the bulgarian border) based traditional oriantated Heavy Metal band. As I hold the album cover the first time in my hands I was sceptic about the english lyrics. But I was completly wrong with my fears. DRAGAN DZUNIC and NEMANJA ZIVKOVIC are perfect sounding vocalists.Of course you read wright the group features to very good singers. Their powerfull midranged voices leads LEGACY to a high level and certify em fast a regonize able importance.The following REBEL is a great combi nation of modern arranged melodic metal with the contribu tion of famous Hard Rock ele ments. Maybe the describtion RAINBOW meets ROYAL HUNT could be a good expla nation too. Harder edged but still with lot of melody is staffed the great INDIGO CHILD. As bonus contains this recor ding also a bonus video of this track.Really back to the basic in the tradition of the great Heavy Metal acts reigns then one of my favorites BROKEN WINGS.With a mysterious and spheric intoduction starts the bombastic stumping epos LEGACY. Great, this tune spreads the real
metal anthem. Circa in the same direction tendence the melodic hammer F(R)IEND. By the way both guitarists (BOBAN PEJCIC and MAR JAN COLIC) intune during the complete running time with lots of skill their instruments. A great harmony line attracts the attention of the semi powerballad MASQUERADE during the romantic and melancoly powerballad FOR YOU I CRY will fascinate in the follow with fine guitarwork too. Hard and heavy returns the group with DEMONCRACY to their roots. I appreciate a lot the story behind the energetic THERE I NO WOR LDS which ends a superb debut. LÖRIHEN - BAJO LA CRUZ(ICARUS MUSIC / CD´2007) ARGENTINA
This argentinian metal act published in the last years a couple of good records and etablished themself in the domes tic scene. Their actual recording (if I´m informed correct is this their fifth studioalbum) firms with a controvers cover under the title UPSIDE DOWN THE CROSS. Together with the other well known acts as RENACER and MAGIKA shar es LÖRIHEN more or less the same style of metaltype. So far the offical presentation of this new recording was in Buenos Aires at November 10th in the last year.This audio visionell happenng is catched also too on a soon to be published DVD. By the way but back to this product. The reign starts with EN LA OSCURIDAD. An impressive short guitarsolo opens this melodic rocker with an hard edge bravorous. Straight over the cool dominance throwns migh ty the fantastic voice of LUCAS GERARDO. No matter EN LA OSCURIDAD is the perfect opener for this album. Top on top slides the recording into the titletrack BAJO LA CRUZ which blends with a magic melodyline every lover of this
style. Without a stop follows EXTRANOS SIGNOS which reminds me with his structure a little bit on the old BON JOVI at the NEW JERSEY phase. Ok, this comparsion is bold, cause natural is this great composition again packed with dozens of great guitar licks. I only would give you all an idea what big potencial hides inside this track . VIDA ETERNA is a good arranged melodic cut but nothing else more. By the way the song isn´t a filler but in comparsion to the former tracks midclass. EL SECRETO MAS PERVERSO jumps back to this remindable style of the first four cuts and surprise the listener with a DEF LEPPARD alike chorusline. VOLVER A NACER is another great melodic metal hymn. During ANIMAL is a high energy ladden metaltune. Modern styled keyboard background attacks by EMILIANO OBREGON (also rhythmnguitar) in duell with the great guitarwork of senor JULIAN BARRETT is the ba sic of such an impressive song as SIN CONTROL. Cranck up the volume to the maximum and listen the following melodic masterpiece LAGRIMAS DE SANGRE (EARS OF BLOOD). I am sure one listening and you´ll be a follower for a lifetime for LÖRIHEN...!!! Back with bang awakes you ANTIHEROE with a slight Power Metal touch from your dreams. Majestic and mighty sounds the last chapter MI ULTIMA FUNCION... hopefully this cut will be not program cause as I have written are some of the members also involved in the new band MAGNOS too. However, it´s a must of every melodic Heavy Metal to listen this superb album (produced by their multitalent EMILIANO OBREGON)... www.LORIHEN.net . LUJURIA - LICANTROFILIA(MALDITO RECORDS MR124 / CD´2008) SPAIN
For a moment I thought that after the years by LOCOMOTIVE MUSIC the successful story about LUJURIA ends. After a good live album follows now with LICANTROFILIA their first studio recording after this period. So what´s goes on by the lusty maniacs from Madrid. It seems that the timeout pumped new blood in their rusty veins. CAE LA MASCARA is a higclass remindable Heavy / Power Metal tune which opens perfect the reign. Followed by the heavy but still melodic edged titletrack LICANTROFILIA rise the blood in my veins to the beat. During this two song works without any (keyboard) bombast is the next number CUERPO DE MUJER no more free from this elements. This means not that I didn´t like this cut, but he couldn´t hold this strong authentic Heavy Metal feeling as the songs before. More Rock´n Roll alike swings then LAS TABLAS DE MOI-SEX. Back to their original roots leads us then again TIGRESA BLANCA . For me sounds LUJURIA perfect in the moments where they agitate without keyboard or bombastic ballast. In other words the pure and steely style leads em to the top. Exact in this direction tendences then ARANDO EL CIELO. Of course the song is not free of decent keyboards but the steady pregnant vocal performance by OSCAR "LUJURIA" as well the powerfull guitarwork by JESUS SANZ "CHEPAS" and JULIO HERRANZ "JULITO" made this composition to another winner on this disc. ESCUCHAME is a song with hit quality. One listen and you never will forget the refrain. Close your eyes and keep listen with all your intense then the following PRISONERA. Ups, did they mean me in the following VIEJO ROCKERO? Serious, this power ballad strucks down ninetee percent of all the grab which publish many other bands inside this circle. QUE ES MEJOR (WHAT´S IMPORTANT) is a moody rocker. Nothing special but for my opinion okay. During the quite balladesc starting monumental rocker GOLIARDOS is one of my favorites on this album. LEIZE - SOLO PARA TI(OIHUKA DISCOS PC 369 / CD´2008) SPAIN
After years of silence, the last known lifesign was the good double livealbum ESTO ES LO QUE HAY (VI) from 1997, returns this basque legendary hard and heavy institution a bit longer then ten years later with their reunion album on the scene. Believe it or not this long break refreshed their sound. During some of the late studio albums of LEIZE sound in my ears powerless and cheesy spreads this new recording a lot of energetic power. Great melodies and catchy guitars convince at full line. NO ME DEJARE (DON´T BE SLOVENLY) opens the album somewhere close in the style to the old BARON ROJO / OBUS. But this is only a circa direction. More or less sounds on this album everything typic for LEIZE..!!!! Typic with all their good roots from the past. Perhaps a better discription is the band returns in their old days back to their great times of the first two albums. But continue to the new release. The following DESDE QUE TE VI ( HOW FROM YOU) it´s a melodic hard rock pearl with a unique unforgetable melodyline. Twice too, catchy and refreshing sounds the hard rock hymn DESPIERTO (AWAKE). Closer in the heavy direction drives the energetic PEDAZO DE CIELO (PIECE OF HEAVEN). But also this harder edged track crowns a remindable melodyline. A really heavy arranged cracker is then SIN SITIO (WITHOUT SPACE). After this five runnin tunes could we relax then to the moody ballad ABANDONANDO (LOST). Direct in your heart strikes as next the clas sic Heavy / Power Metal runner HEROE. Timeless good heavy rock serves us DE NADIE (FOR NOBODY). In the same corner with an incredible bunch of melody is the titletrack SOLO PARA TI (ONLY FOR YOU) arranged too. EL OTRO LADO DEL ESPEJO (THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR) is a slight MAIDEN inspired cut. Maybe a bit weak starts the simple rocker LA HEBILLA DE DIOS (THE BUCKLE OF THE GODS). But I had this feeling only 20 seconds untill this composition turns into another classic Heavy Rock by LEIZE. Quite and full of emotions is the background for the closing epos DEJAME DECIRTE. LUZBEL - TENTACIONES(DISCOS DENVER / CD-DSD-6464´2008) MEXICO
What a triumphant return. After years of silence and tons of obscure Best of albums returns the mexican Power Metal gods finally with a new studio album. Of course the vocalparts celebrates again maybe the best performer in this country for this kind of classic driven Heavy / Power Metal. By the way this means that nobody else as senor ARTURO HUIZAR which we know from his performances with RAXAS and ULTRATUMBA catch with his extraordinary style your attention. Together with the tight guitarrists GUILLERMO JACOME and RICARD III (RICTER) works this combination constant at high level. With the insane opener ESTIGMA (SCARS) demonstrate and impress the quintett their skill and experience to perform Heavy / Power
Metal in a great style. Unbelieveable how tight creeps this monster cut in your vains. I wish this album would be more powerfull and transparent produced. But if you keep listen em at high level or around your hifi near the maximum level nothing can´t disturb this little manko ... !!! Without a doubt TENTACIONES (TEMPTATION) is a real great album and able to be named in one sentence with such former classics by LUZBEL as PASAPORTE AL INFIERNO or the timeless REBELIONES DE LOS DESGRACIADOS. During the opener acts in the classic JUDAS PRIEST / ANGELES DEL INFIERNO / LUZBEL style leads us the following ENVIADO in a more epic ladden direction. Great melodylines lift this hymn to an imaginery metal throne. Every of this ten featured compositions on the disc are composed by the team HUIZAR / G.JACOME. So we can enjoy their classic taste for the real eighties inspired Heavy Metal also in the spectacular runner AVARICIA (STINGINESS). Believe it or not it´s impossible to listen this runner only one time. With his imressice spreading intensity you will be a follower after the first listen. Believe me you will be infected from this magic riffs. Unusal hard edged and raw but fantastic acts then SOBERBIA (ARROGANT). The typical majestic latin powerballad follows at hand with LUJURIA (LONGING). Keep listen there the extra orbitant guitarsolo. Back to another typical guiding power metal number guides us IRA (HATE) with his stumping and grinding riffs. ARTURO HUIZAR demon strates their absolute impressive the brightness of his voice. It doesn´t matter if he sings melodic, if he screams or if his voice is full of mystic. Every second catch this latin metalgod your attention with his superb voice. Riff on riff and a typical athmosphere how we can it hear on the early works of the spanish classic metal acts OBUS and PANZER is the basic of the marching tune GULA (GREEDY). Timeless just Heavy Metal to the point is the secret behind PEREZA (LAZY) . In the same direction but more powerful tendence the strong EXCELENCIA with his galloping guitars too. Full of mystic packed with goosebumber effects starts the majestic NWOBHM influenced total outstanding metal gem ABBADON untill the medival inspired instrumental UN INSTANTE DE ETERNIDAD ends this grandious album. In the last years a lot of impressive metal acts came out of this middle american country but for me is still LUZBEL the real reincarnation of timeless classic Heavy / Power Metal act. LEGACIA - LIBRE ALBEDRIO(COLUMBIAN METAL MILITIA RECORDS) CD´2009
Since I´ve heard the first time about the esistence of this release I couldn´t wait it to get this one. No matter LEGACIA is a great band and statisfy with their debut all my hopes. Produced in 2008 in the capital of Columbia delivers us this eight tracker a fine brand of classic eighties influenced Power Metal. In combination with the typical southamerican art to celebrate this kind of popular style at high level works the concept behind LIBRE ALBEDRIO perfect. It is then tiltetrack which opens glorious this lovely styled indie disc.
